City of compton mayor9/21/2023 ![]() In partnership with the Compton Public Defender’s Office, I hosted an amazing Juneteenth Freedom Day Expungement Event at Dollarhide Community Center on June 15 th. We are planning to have more citywide prayers that include our entire city’s clergy to inspire and motivate everyone to do our part in the best interest of Compton. Each person who participated had an opportunity to reflect and decide how they wanted to give back and move our city forward. Every spoken prayer was about healing, unity, and prosperity over our city. We appreciate the patience of our citizens, as we continue to address the long-standing problem with our streets.įor National Prayer Day, the city’s ministers, bishops, pastors, and reverends answered the call to pray over our city. There has also been a major street revamp to Rosecrans Blvd. Our Public Works department has repaired potholes along Victoria St., Kemp and Cressey, West Reeves, Alondra Blvd., Alameda Blvd, and Stockwell Road. The City of Compton’s Public Works Department has been working tirelessly to repair potholes and sidewalks throughout the city. We expect the completion of the bridge by spring of 2024. I am extremely excited to inform the City that the funds for the bridge have been released, and the prep work on the bridge has already begun. We also went to the homes of our senior residents and took care of those who did not have the means for transportation to get to the dump site. Provided a central location where residents could come and dump trash. My office and City Staff, along with Assemblymember Mike Gipson, California Department of Transportation, organized and executed several city dump days. We will continue to work alongside the Sheriff’s department to ensure effective service for our citizens. Citizens came out to share their thoughts about the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s practices, policies, and procedures. County Civilian Oversight Commission on June 15 th. We actively listened to citizens and deliberately gathered all citizens/participants feedback to create a budget that best serves the community. These meetings were used to get residents input on allocating the City’s budget. This allows us to focus on priority-based budgeting. ![]() The City of Compton hosted several Community Budget Meetings. We are proud of our actions in addressing the recommendations of the State Audit and look forward to continuing to comply with the remainder of the recommendations in the Audit. Our Human Resources Department has made great strides these past couple of months with hiring a new Human Resources director and developing a comprehensive recruitment and hiring plans to fill long-term vacancies within the City.
